Convert length, weight, temperature, volume, data size and nine more kinds of units using exact official factors. Type something like “5 ft to cm” for an instant answer, or see a value in every unit at once.
Type a number and two units. It converts as soon as it understands you; press Enter for single units like “3 kg”.
1 m = 3.2808399 ft
Divide the length value by 0.3048.
1 m = 3.2808399 ft · 1 ft = 0.3048 m

The Unit Converter turns a value into any other unit in the same category: length, weight, temperature, area, volume, cooking measures, speed, time, data size, pressure, energy, power, angle and fuel economy. Pick a category, type a number and choose the two units. The answer updates as you type, and a table shows the same value in every unit of that category, so you can compare at a glance.
Every factor uses its official definition. An inch is exactly 2.54 cm, a pound exactly 0.45359237 kg, a US gallon 3.785411784 litres and a UK gallon 4.54609 litres. Temperature is converted with formulas, and fuel economy handles inverse measures such as litres per 100 km correctly. Under each result the converter explains the maths in plain words, so you can check it or do it yourself.
For a quick answer, type a phrase like “5 ft to cm”, “2 GB to MB” or “5 ft 11 in to cm” into the search box. It accepts comma or dot decimals, fractions such as 1 1/2, and scientific notation. Your last category and units are remembered, and the page address updates as you go so you can share an exact conversion. Everything runs in your browser.
The converter uses the exact legal definitions of each unit, for example 1 inch = 0.0254 m, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg and 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L. Results are calculated in double precision and rounded only for display, to the number of significant figures you choose. Whole numbers are never rounded.
They are different sizes. A US gallon is 3.785411784 litres and a UK (imperial) gallon is 4.54609 litres. A US pint has 16 US fluid ounces, while a UK pint has 20 UK fluid ounces. Both are listed separately, so choose the one your recipe or source uses.
MB, GB and TB are decimal units that use powers of 1,000, which is how drive makers and most network speeds are measured. MiB, GiB and TiB are binary units that use powers of 1,024, which many operating systems use. 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1 GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Not directly. A cup is a volume and a gram is a weight, so the answer depends on the ingredient: a cup of flour weighs much less than a cup of sugar. The Cooking category converts between volume measures such as cups, tablespoons, teaspoons and millilitres.
A number and two units, such as “5 ft to cm”, “100 f in c”, “10 L/100km to mpg” or “how many ounces in a pound”. Mixed amounts like “5 ft 11 in” and “1 hour 30 minutes” are added together. Fractions such as 1 1/2 or ½ and comma decimals such as 1,5 also work.
