How the Open Graph & Social Preview Checker works

The Open Graph & Social Preview Checker shows you what people will see when your link is shared. Paste your page's HTML and it finds the Open Graph (og:) and Twitter Card tags, then draws the share card as it appears on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and Slack.

Each tag is checked against what those platforms expect: a headline that won't be cut off, a description of the right length, a share image that is large enough and the right shape, a full https:// address, and the twitter:card type that X needs for a large image. Every problem comes with a short, plain-English fix.

You can also type or edit the tags directly to try out a new title or image before you publish. When you're happy, copy the finished tags into your page's <head> or your SEO plugin.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I paste HTML instead of typing my page address?

Browsers don't let one website read another website's pages, so a tool that runs entirely in your browser can't fetch your URL. Open your page, press Ctrl + U (Cmd + Option + U on a Mac) to view the source, copy it all and paste it in. Nothing is sent to our server.

What size should my Open Graph image be?

Use 1200 × 630 pixels, which is a 1.91:1 shape. It looks sharp on Facebook, LinkedIn, X and WhatsApp. Keep important text away from the edges, because some platforms crop slightly, and use JPG or PNG. SVG images are not supported.

Do I need Twitter Card tags if I have Open Graph tags?

X reads og:title, og:description and og:image, so you don't need to repeat them. You do need twitter:card set to summary_large_image if you want the large image card instead of a small thumbnail.

I fixed my tags but Facebook or LinkedIn still shows the old preview. Why?

Platforms cache previews for days. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector and ask them to scrape the page again. X and WhatsApp usually refresh on their own after a while.

Is my HTML uploaded anywhere?

No. The tags are read by your browser on your device. The only request the page makes is your browser loading the share image from its own address, so it can check the image size.
