Your HTML will appear here as soon as you add a Word file or paste from Word.
The Word to HTML Converter turns Word documents into HTML code. Drop in one or more .docx files, or paste straight from Word or Google Docs, and the tool shows the generated HTML, a Markdown version and a preview, ready to copy into a website, blog, CMS or email template.
Instead of copying Word's formatting, it maps the document's structure to plain HTML: Heading styles become <h1> to <h6>, bullet and numbered lists become <ul> and <ol>, and tables, links, footnotes and images are kept. Fonts, colours and Word-specific markup are left out, so the code stays short and takes on your site's own styles.
You can choose indented or minified code, keep inline colours and alignment for emails, add a table of contents, wrap the code in a complete HTML page, strip any tag you don't want, and embed images, save them as separate files or leave them out. The code box is editable and the preview and Markdown follow as you type. Everything runs in your browser, so your documents never leave your device.
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on the number of documents.
No. Files and pasted text are converted by your browser on your own device. The page only downloads open-source helpers (mammoth.js to read .docx files and JSZip for ZIP downloads) when they are first needed; your documents are never sent anywhere.
Yes. Copy the text in Word or Google Docs, click the paste box and press Ctrl + V. Headings, lists, tables, links and bold or italic text are kept. Images can't be pasted from Word, because Word puts them in a temporary file the browser can't read, so upload the .docx file if you need them.
Not directly. The older .doc format can't be read in a browser. Open the file in Word (or LibreOffice or Google Docs), save it as .docx, and convert that file.
By default the tool keeps the structure of the document (headings, lists, tables, emphasis) and leaves out visual styling, so the HTML is clean and fits the design of the page you paste it into. Tick "Keep inline styles" to keep text colours, highlights, fonts, sizes and alignment as inline styles, which is handy for emails.
Open the "Remove tags" menu and tick the tags you don't want. Their text stays in place; removed headings, quotes and table cells become paragraphs.
By default images are embedded in the HTML as data URIs, so the code works on its own. Choose "Separate files" to download a ZIP with the HTML and an images folder it links to, or "Remove" to leave images out.
The converter recognises headings by their Word style. Text that was only made bigger or bold, without the Heading 1 to Heading 6 style, comes out as a normal paragraph. Apply the Heading styles in Word and convert again.
